Bachelor Thesis Organization

The aim of a Bachelor's thesis is to work independently on a scientific question or topic in the fields of organization and/or behavioral economics.

You can apply for a thesis twice a year (see below under Procedure). Topics for a bachelor’s thesis  are published here on April 23 and October 23 (see below under Topics).

If you would like to write your Bachelor's thesis at the Institute of Organization and Human Resource Management (IOP), there are two dates every year when you can apply for an available topic or submit your own topic.

  1. Publication of the possible topics
    • Spring semester: 23.04.
    • Fall semester: 23.10.
  2. Registration for Bachelor Thesis (student)
    • Registration period:
    • Spring semester: 25.04. (12:00) - 02.05. (12:00)
    • Fall semester: 25.10. (12:00) - 02.11. (12:00)

    • Please then submit your study sheet with your transcript of records (PDF) via email an: daniele.hafner@unibe.ch
      Please note that applications outside the specified period will not be considered.
  3. Feedback (IOP-O)
    • 1st date: 11.05.
    • 2nd date: 11.11.
    • By email to student
      Content: Confirmation or rejection of supervision, assignment of supervisor
  4. First meeting (student) selection initial interview
    • Registration period:
    • 1st period: 12.05. - 19.05.
    • 2nd period: 12.11. - 19.11.
    • By email to the supervisor
      Content: Name, matriculation number, contact details, preferred dates (see period for kick-off dates in topic announcement).
    • Please note: If you register late for the first meeting (kick-off), your confirmation of supervision will expire. By registering for the kick-off meeting, you accept a mandatory place on the program.
  5. Feedback (IOP-O)
    • Via email to the student
      Content: Appointment scheduling
  6. Kick-off meeting, (student, supervisor)
    • Possible time frame:
    • 1st period: 22.05. - 20.10.
    • 2nd period: 22.11. - 20.04.
    • Place: online-Meeting or supervisor's office
      Content: clarification of the topic
  7. Submission of proposal (student)
    • Submission date: 2 Weeks after kick-off meeting (see point 6)
      By email to supervisor
      Content: Proposal according to IOP information sheet for Bachelor theses Department of Organization (see under legal regulations)
  8. Discussion of proposal (student, supervisor)
    • When: after submission of proposal (see point 7)
      Place: online-meeting or supervisor’s office
      Content: Feedback, discussion, revision requests if necessary
  9. If applicable, submission date of revised proposal (student)
    • When: 1-2 weeks after discussion of proposal (see point 8)
      Via email to supervisor
      Content: revised proposal according to discussion
  10. Approval and start of the completion period by the supervisor
    • Date: the completion period starts of the day of the first proposal meeting.
  11. Optional interim meeting (student, supervisor)
    • Date: can be chosen anytime within the ten-week period
      Place: online-meeting or supervisor’s office
      Content: freely selectable
  12. Submission of Bachelor Thesis (student)
    • Time frame: 10 weeks after discussion of proposal (see point 10)
      Content: a bound copy AND PDF
      Via email to the supervisor as well as submission to supervisor’s office /secretariat (IOP)
      Please note: the thesis is classed as failed if the submission deadline is not met
  13. Notification of grades to the dean's office (supervisor)
    • When: at the latest, 3 months after the submission of the Bachelor Thesis
  14. Optional feedback talk (student; supervisor)
    • Date: as agreed with supervisor
      Place: online-meeting or supervisor’s office

The registration period for a Bachelor's thesis is from 25.04. (12:00) - 02.05. (12:00) (period 1) and from 25.10. (12:00) - 02.11. (12:00) (period 2).

During this period, please complete the subject preference form and then send your supporting documents by email to daniele.hafner@unibe.ch.
